MySQL Essentials

The objective of MySQL Essentials training is to provide the necessary essentials for supporting a MySQL development environment and provide basic MySQL Administration tasks. The pre-requisite for MySQL Essentials course attendees is knowledge of software programming, and a general understanding of SQL. No detailed knowledge of MySQL is required, however any previous experience with MySQL in installing, configuring and general use is a distinct advantage.

Our training includes a large detail of hands on work. We look at the standard cases, we look at the exception cases. You will learn ways to break MySQL in order to understand why, and how to correct these problems.

MySQL Products & Product Variants

The MySQL ecosystem has a number of varying MySQL products, versions, community and commercial contributions. There can be easily 10 different versions of MySQL Server your organization could consider. Know what is currently offered, what could provide a solution for your relative situation and what relative strengths and weaknesses exist for these variances. Understanding that a non Sun/MySQL supplied product exists and may be better for your environment and situation.

MySQL Installation

In MySQL Installation, we look at the multiple offerings of MySQL binaries now available, and we step through three (3) different installation methods of MySQL including operating system (OS) packaged, official binary's and via source code. We will look at a number of operating systems where MySQL is supported and the differences between these. Learn the basic operating system security model for MySQL and about the various log files and what varies between different OS offerings. We will cover the basic single MySQL installation and MySQL replication installations during MySQL Essentials.

MySQL Setup

In MySQL Setup we take a vanilla MySQL Installation and perform a number of tests to confirm and verify the setup. In particular we consider different incorrectly installed environments, as well as mixed mode environments consisting of multiple MySQL instances, packaged and non-packaged as well as other software dependenacies.

MySQL Configuration

In MySQL Configuration we review a correctly installed and zero configured environment, the minimum installation for any developer, and we discuss and demonstration each configuration item, with test cases to show their input and benefits.

Essential Backup & Recovery

A system backup and recovery strategy is an essential operating process. The addition with a MySQL Installation and MySQL data, and appropriate database strategy is also necessary. Learn the various techniques, the impacts and dependencies with the operating system and application configurations.

Essential Monitoring MySQL

Know the bare minimum of monitoring that is necessary for your MySQL environment. Understand how to desern information and learn the techniques of identifing and addressing common problems in a development environment.

Configuration Management with MySQL

Our MySQL Essentials course concludes with an essential and rarely taught skill of configuration management. How can you effectively manage MySQL objects in a versioned state and in conjunction with your application environmnent. Learn exactly what to do, and not the options that limit your effectiveness in future software and hardware deployment.
